My Music

Although I grew up in a fairly musical family, I never thought that I would become a songwriter. I always loved singing (but very privately) and in 10th grade I got an electric guitar thinking that I wanted to be a rock star someday. After realizing it was a lot harder than it looked, I decided to give up that dream and continue to do art like I always had.

I haphazardly wrote one song in college about a guy I liked - and it was very emo (perhaps someday I'll share it just for fun!), but things really began to take off after my call to ministry when I was taking a Bible Study Class and felt inspired to write a song based on some verses I had read in Matthew 6. The lyrics flowed right out of me with little effort, and so did the melody. After that, the inspiration to write songs kept coming. Whenever I felt deeply impacted by something I would create a new song - many of which came from painful times and struggles. I now have over 30 completed - all with basic chords that most people could play - and I feel God calling me to share them with the world.

Music has gotten me through some of the most difficult moments of my life, and I have connected with God while listening to it more times than I can count. If my songs can help someone in any purposeful way, I think it's worth the effort to post them for others to hear. They won't be professionally recorded - it will just be me with my trusty ol' guitar that I bought myself for my 30th birthday - but I want to follow God's prompting on my heart to see where this leads me.
